UNIVERSITY OF WALES, BANGOR Gerwyn Williams, is the first person to win a National Eisteddfod literary competion while a member of the Welsh department.

He was awarded the crown in August 1994 for his series of poems which respond to the de-humanising effect of television and global media.

NUCLEAR ELECTRIC PRIZE The prize for 1994 has been awarded to Gareth Jones, senior lecturer and college tutor at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in recognition of the programme established for physics students of Imperial College to study abroad.

ASI PRIZEWINNERS The Puley Award : Gary Wedlake for his work in the stage II examinations.

Direct Member Assessors Prize: Terry Ferguson, for a set of papers of outstanding merit in the 1994 session.

SMART PRIZE A company based at the University of Central England in Birmingham has won a prize for innovative ideas in the Department of Trade and Industry annual SMART (Small Firms Merit Awards for Research and Technology) competition. It was awarded to Bez Shirvani of Moni Sys Limited.
