The following have been appointed to the ruling council of the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work: Ziggi Alexander, director of corporate affairs, University College London hospitals. Carole Stone, public relations and media consultant.

KEELE UNIVERSITY

Anthony Wood, chairman and managing director of Arthur Wood and Son, has been appointed chairman of the university's development trust.

ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS

AND SURGEONS OF GLASGOW

James Beaton, librarian at the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, has been appointed archivist/librarian at the Royal College from March 1995, succeeding Sandy Rodger.

UMIST

Roland Smith has been elected chancellor from January 1996.

David Anthony King, fellow of St John's College and head of the chemistry deprtment, has been pre-elected to the mastership of Downing College from October 1.
