MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY Michael Driscoll, deputy vice chancellor since 1995, professor and head of the school of economics, succeeds David Melville as vice chancellor of theuniversity.

University of HUDDERSFIELD Ernest Hall has been appointed chancellor of the university for afive-year period. Sir Ernest, musician and entrepreneur, is vice president of the Royal Society of Arts anda former deputy lieutenant ofWest Yorkshire.

He is a member of the Arts Council and has chaired Yorkshire and Humberside Arts since itsformation in 1991.

ROYAL NORTHERN COllEGE OF MUSIC Edward Warren, senior tutor in woodwind, tutor in bassoon and conducting and resident conductor of the college's symphony orchestra, has been appointed assistanthead of the school of wind and percussion.

Karen Humphreys, tutor at the college, has been appointed international officer.
