Opportunities for data-led action and partnership in achieving SDG 5: Gender Equality

Times Higher Education Impact data creates an invaluable repository of evidence which documents the contributions of worldwide universities to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Data collected on SDG 5, Gender Equality, capture the diverse efforts made by universities to foster equality and empower women.

Produced in partnership with KPMG, this whitepaper shines a spotlight on universities in the Global South, a region of diverse and dynamic SDG contributions, and presents instances of exemplary best practice and opportunities for collaborative partnership development. It includes case studies on effective collaboration with the Global South from the University of Nottingham and University of Reading.

Examining the performance of six markets (India, Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Egypt and a Sub-Saharan Africa aggregated group) across eight metric indicators, it also demonstrates the unique position of universities to enact social change and proposes five recommendations to ensure that policy, practice, funding and institutional capacity are aligned for success.

* This whitepaper was produced by Times Higher Education (THE) Consultancy, in collaboration with KPMG. We would like to thank the University of Nottingham (UK) and the University of Reading (UK) for their contribution of case studies.
