DEPARTMENTAL STAFF

Clarissa Nearly (Clarrie)

Clarrie has a degree in English from the University of Marrakech. She has really loved literature for more or less the whole of her life. Her favourite novel is Pride and Prejudice and she spends quite a bit of time alone in the country. Her publications include a "triptych" of short poems about her womb and parts of the Lake District.

Mike Pollock (Mikey), head of department

Dr Pollock graduated with an upper second in creative writing from the University of Uttoxeter. His subsequent career took him to the University of Bromsgrove (Diploma in creative writing), the University of Old Sarum (MA in creative writing) and finally the University of Yeovil (DPhil. creative writing). He believes that everyone has that "little spark" that can enable them to obtain a degree in creative writing. Mikey likes "long books without too many characters".

Mrs Dilworth (Mrs Dilworth)

Mrs Dilworth has been seconded to the department of creative writing from the vice-chancellor's office, where she has been responsible for writing more than 200 letters to "all academic staff". Her recent work includes Early Retirement: What are the Alternatives? and Proposed Pay Reductions for Actions Short of a Strike . Mrs Dilworth has seen Doctor Zhivago five times.

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM RECENT GRADUATES

A. G. (Leicester). "I only graduated last year but I've already had a long letter published about what my wife and I got up to with the young couple next door in a top magazine."
