While wishing all success to the diploma in clinical hypnosis at St Mary's University College ("Mesmeric medicine", 9 April), it is not the first recognised academic qualification in clinical hypnosis in the UK. The British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis runs a diploma course in clinical hypnosis at Staffordshire University and a short hypnosis training course within the continuing professional development portfolio at the University of Salford.
