Perfectly formed

July 19, 2002

My university strongly refutes the suggestion that its redundancy committee is "improperly formed" (For the record, THES , July 12). Two members of academic staff sit on it, as our statutes require.

Elizabeth Laws, president of the Salford Association of University Teachers, put her arguments about a breach of statutes to a July 2 council meeting. They were considered but rejected. Council members strive to act within rules for the university's best interests. We explore every opportunity to achieve necessary staffing savings by voluntary means.
