Letter: Strategic demo

The article "Student demo fails to inspire" ( THES , March 1) does not accurately reflect the day or the feeling of the majority of the 15,000 students who attended. The demonstration was one of many National Union of Students campaign techniques, which include supplying evidence and research to the government. NUS campaigning has led to the government ruling out top-up fees this Parliament, admitting to the student funding problem, announcing a funding review, and admitting to the anomaly in the benefits system. NUS Wales has also won back grants for Welsh students.
