Breaking a student's engagement with a subject into defined tasks can turn it into a process of jumping through hoops. Connections are not perceived, the synthesis that leads to understanding does not happen, imagination, creativity and curiosity are not fostered. There is a danger education will slide towards drilling for assessment.
