As a woman on an academic contract who is nowhere near being a vice-chancellor (and doesn't aspire to be one), but who is also loaded with "S" (support activities), has a toddler, takes work home (to do after toddler is in bed) and has a guilty conscience all the time because there is no time or energy left for doing anything resembling research, reading Susan Bassnett's article was as welcome as a good moan among friends.
