Letter: Islam in US story

Talk of an inevitable conflict between Islam and the West is "a fundamental fallacy" (Features, THES , November 9), not least because the two civilisations have long influenced each other. The reading room of the US Library of Congress has a mural that depicts Islam as having made a major contribution to US civilisation.
