History's not history

What is most surprising about the sorry saga at Harris Manchester College ("Oxford College in survival fight", THES , September 26) is the decision to cut history, a subject particularly attractive to mature students.

A quarter of our intake of history undergraduates this year are mature students and the trend is upwards.
