Founded in 1921, in the aftermath of World War I, the University of Leicester was built with the purpose of establishing a living memorial to those who had lost their lives during the conflict. Its motto Ut Vitam Habeant ('so that they may have life') reflects its belief that through research and education, the university would act as a beacon of hope for the future.

Granted its Royal Charter in 1957, Leicester is now one of the UK's leading research universities and prides itself on making contributions that have hade a positive impact on public health, culture, society and the environment.

The university offers over 350 degree programmes across three academic colleges: medicine, biological sciences and psychology, science and engineering, and arts and humanities. Its ethos emphasises a cross-disciplinary approach, innovation and collaboration.

Based in the city of the same name, Leicester has a youthful feel and boasts the largest number of people aged 19 and under in the East Midlands region.

Although it’s the tenth largest city in the UK, it has an abundance of green spaces making it easy to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life. Its main campus, which backs onto 69 acres of park land, is often referred to as the university’s ‘back garden'.

Leicester is one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the UK and its university lays claim to a long-standing record on social inclusiveness.

The city is also among the most economical places to live in the country. In 2015 it was ranked top by HSBC for the second year in a row for being the UK’s most affordable university.

Among the university’s claims to fame are the invention of genetic fingerprinting in 1984 by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys and the more recent discovery of King Richard III’s mortal remains in a Leicester council car park.

The successful candidate will join our Advanced Sensors team and contribute to the One Health Environmental Sensing project, which focuses on the development of novel sensors to enhance the understanding of multi-drug resistance and track antimicrobial resistance using a One Health approach. About the Role The postholder’s primary responsibility is to conduct cutting-edge research on environmental sensor development for monitoring pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes, utilising state-of-the-art facilities in the Advanced Sensors Laboratory at Cranfield University. This will involve cutting-edge tools, including CRISPR/Cas diagnostics, paper-based microfluidics, high-throughput single-cell analysis using droplet-based microfluidics, in collaboration with Harvard University and industrial partners. The post will operate within the CoSTAR National Lab led by Royal Holloway University of London with Pinewood Studios, BT, University of Surrey, Abertay University, Disguise, National Film and Television School and Surrey County Council.  The role is funded until January 2027, with an extension likely to be granted. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.  The successful candidate will work closely with industry and academic partners within the CoSTAR Network. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in AI for creative industries, while shaping best practices for compute usage and training.  Key responsibilities include:  Supporting CoSTAR R&D activities including the planning and carrying out of specific activities, often in collaboration with colleagues and partners.  Supporting onboarding and troubleshooting activities for CoSTAR AI compute as well as gathering feedback from users. Developing and maintaining key documentation and training materials for the CoSTAR AI Compute infrastructure in collaboration with the wider Surrey Research Computing Services team.  Delivering training sessions for CoSTAR compute users both locally and online.  Leading and collaborating with the CoSTAR Creative AI team, partner Universities and industry across on joint research, development and integration to develop new tools and technologies.  Supporting CoSTAR industry partners in using the CoSTAR AI compute and the development of AI models and applications.  Pursuing and advocating responsible and open research and innovation to ensure ethical, fair and inclusive advances in science, technology and use of data.  Continually update knowledge, develop skills and stay up to date with current research trends and best practice in software development. Undertake liaison with external organisations including equipment manufacturers, steering committees, associated academic facilities and commercial users.  Maintaining links to the central RSE team and ensure sharing of best practice and knowledge within the Surrey RSE community.  About you We are looking for applicants who hold a Master's degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or a related subject. About us The King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office is a collaboration between King’s College London, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. It was set up to provide a single interface for those wishing to conduct clinical trials within the partner organisations, and to ensure that there are common, efficient processes for the set up and administration of clinical trials.  About the role The post-holder will be responsible for overseeing the monitoring and quality assurance of non-commercial clinical trials sponsored or co-sponsored by King’s Health Partners (KHP) Partner Organisations: Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, ICH GCP E6 guidelines, and applicable institutional policies. Working as part of the KHP-CTO Non-Commercial Team, the post-holder will ensure that the sponsor responsibilities (delegated to the KHP-CTO) for clinical oversight, safety reporting, and data integrity; are discharged to the highest standards of quality and compliance.
