OUR HERITAGE

Renowned as China's cradle for the national electronic industry, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is situated in Chengdu, the hometown of Giant Panda. The city is crowned as "Land of Abundance" with a history of over 3000 years.

UESTC was founded by the merging of the electrical engineering departments of 3 top engineering universities in China, under the direction of Premier Zhou Enlai in 1956. It became one of the nation's key universities in 1960. It was selected as one of the first "Project 211" (top 100) universities in 1997 and as one of the nation's "Project 985" (top 39) universities in 2001. In 2017, the University was selected as one of "Double First-Class" universities (Top 36 in China).

 

RESEARCH-INTENSIVE UNIVERSITY

The past sixty-four years has have witnessed the University's progress from its sole focus on the discipline of electronic engineering to one with comprehensive programs in all disciplines in electronics and information studies. At the same time, the University has also evolved into a key multidisciplinary university with electronic science and technology as its nucleus, and engineering as its major emphasis. Its ability to harmoniously integrate the studies of science, engineering, management, medicine and liberal arts, predisposes it to emerge as a top-tier research-intensive university.

In the new century, electronic information science and technology rapidly drive new high-tech developments, bringing about new opportunities and challenges. DISCIPLINE STRENGTHS

According to the latest Global Ranking by Essential Science Indicators (ESI), 9 of our disciplines are ranked among the top 1%, namely, Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Neuroscience & Behaviour, Biology & Biochemistry, Clinical Medicine, with the first two being ranked amongst the top 1‰.

 

INTERNATIONAL APPROACHES

Actively promoting internationalization, the University has established ties with more than 200 universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises in some 70 countries and regions.

We value student exchange and believe it’s critical for our students to have global exposure and gain international experience. Over 30% of our students have overseas study experience in as many as 50 countries and regions. At present, there are more than 1000 long-term international students from over 70 countries and regions. In addition, we have been actively implementing the “First-Class Partnership Initiative” to nurture international elites through joint master’s and PhD programs with prestigious universities such as University of Glasgow in UK, McGill University in Canada, etc.

At the same time, we attach great importance to the training and development of our faculty. We have established faculty training centres with the College of William & Mary in USA and University of Glasgow in UK. Besides, we also have long-term cooperative relations with the world-famous universities, such as Oxford University and UCSB, etc. These international educational links, coupled with domestic ones, have enabled UESTC to have an advantageous position in talent training. 

 

LIVELY CITY

Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan Province and the economic, transportation and communication hub in western China.

Chengdu boasts many world-renowned name cards. There's a relaxing teahouse culture – favourite local institutions have been serving the same brews for generations; a lively nightlife that mixes craft beer bars and clubs with Sichuan opera shows; and delicious food that is famous for its history, variety and spicy style even in cuisine-rich China, and very much a point of pride: Chengdu is, after all, UNESCO's first-ever City of Gastronomy. It has been regarded as one of the most liveable cities in China by China Daily and other media.

As Singapore’s University for Industry, SIT works closely with industry partners in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver on a research project to develop an End-to-end misinformation and disinformation protection, awareness and mitigation pipeline. We will be recruiting a research engineers or fellows, as part of a wider project, to conduct research on: Signal processing combined with AI-based modification on speech signals. The need is for a real-time system, so efficient coding is important. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) Ian McLoughlin, Co-PI Tong Rong and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.  Undertake research within your domain, including keeping track of state-of-the-art work. Develop the code, evaluate and test. Write academic publications. Deliver solution-ready demonstration code. Interact well within the team and the customers. Be self-directed to fulfil the project requirements. Job Requirements: Competence in working with languages such as C along with AI applications as well as Python-based coding . Have a degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will definitely be advantageous. Knowledge of machine learning, pytorch, huggingface etc... Knowledge of speech, audio, time-series or signal processing is required. Ability to effectively and efficiently utilise industry-standard Linux-based computers for AI. Experience of authoring good quality academic publications. Manage undergraduate research assistants (if appropriate). Liaise with customers and collaborators in A*STAR and NTU, as well as collaborators in the UK and China. Research Fellow to join the Big Data in Health Group About us The Big Data in Health group at the University of Southampton is based in the Primary Care Research Centre. We aim to understand patterns, trends, and associations of diseases to inform preventive action in the UK and international contexts. Our group comprises a diverse, multidisciplinary team conducting high-quality, innovative research that addresses complex health and social care challenges of the 21st century. We employ traditional statistical and epidemiological methods, cutting-edge artificial intelligence algorithms, and qualitative research to provide a deeper understanding, insights, and applications.  About the role  In this role, you will join a successful interdisciplinary and mixed-methods team with extensive qualitative and quantitative expertise that conducts research to support people with multiple long-term conditions. The post holder will already be working in the field of multimorbidity. They will have good organisational and administrative skills. They will have excellent writing skills and be able to work independently to draft high-quality academic research papers and convey methodological results of findings through presentations using interactive visualisations.. This position is a unique opportunity to join an experienced, fast-paced and high-output research group, working closely with our supportive team to help deliver School for Primary Care Research (SPCR), National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) funded projects in populations with multiple long-term conditions. The post is offered full-time for 6 months and will be available starting in June/July. The salary for this position will be level 4. The Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University is now looking for a Doctoral Researcher to work on nano-scale control of optical fields. We are looking for an outstanding doctoral student to join the Optics and Photonics group for theoretical and experimental research on nanoscale control of optical fields for applications in optical imaging and photonic chip technology. The research will be focused on the design, fabrication, and testing of optical components with novel functionalities based on nanoscale manipulation of light and its propagation medium. Potential applications of these components range from super-resolution optical microscopes and telescopes to on-chip photonic processors. The appointment is for 4 years with a flexible start in autumn 2026. The research involves collaboration with scientists from the University of Eastern Finland and Tampere University, as well as researcher groups from Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. Your role and goals In this position, you will act as a doctoral researcher working on design and testing of novel nanofabricated optical components. The design will be done using advanced numerical calculation methods, such as Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. Approaches based on inverse engineering and machine learning will also be considered. The samples will be fabricated using the clean room facilities of Aalto University and tested using the equipment of the Optics and Photonics group. We expect you to be able to generate good scientific ideas, propose new technological solutions, initiate and maintain scientific collaboration, write scientific articles and research proposals, and participate in teaching. We expect you to graduate as a Doctor of Science in four years. Your experience We expect the candidate to hold a MSc degree in physics and be familiar with standard numerical calculation techniques used in physics. Preference will be given to candidates with good understanding of basic optics and experience in designing optical components and conducting optical experiments. Fluency in English both spoken and written is required. What we offer Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary for a Doctoral Researcher is approximately 3142 €/month (gross), and it increases as you progress in your research and studies. Following the standard practice in the Department of Applied Physics, the contract will be made initially for two years, then extended to another two years after a successful mid-term progress review.
