We currently have positions available at all levels, from Lecturer to Full Professor, for the following programmes:  Civil Engineering / Mining Engineering: Emerging and disruptive construction technologies / High-performance construction materials with reduced embodied carbon / Tunnel engineering with expertise in design, construction, operation and impact assessment of tunnels  Electrical and Electronics Engineering: Power electronics / Power system analytics / Expertise related to marine / built sector (e.g. electrification of ships or maritime and building energy efficiency) / Digital twinning of electrical / aviation / manufacturing set-ups / Expertise in system design which may include green building design involving passive to active systems or land transport systems  Mechanical Engineering / Material Engineering / Marine Engineering: Transport infrastructure asset management / Domain Expertise in maintenance, operation and modelling of infrastructural assets and systems  Systems Engineering: Competent in data analytics for the power industry or building services / Experience in integrated digital technology such as AR/VR for system maintenance, including electrical power and thermal assets in buildings or shipyard or aviation / Strong  background in Infocomm Technology for IoT implementation and integration  Successful candidates will join the Engineering (ENG) Cluster (one of five academic clusters in SIT), as members of a team of accomplished experts who are passionate about higher education and deeply involved in industry transformation through applied research programmes.                                                                    Faculty in the ENG Cluster undertake funded industry-relevant research, teach courses in civil, mining, electrical, mechanical, material, marine and systems engineering as well as supervise graduate industry masters and doctorate students in relevant topics. They are also provided with paid leave to undertake consultancy work with industry and/or spend time attached with industry.                                                                                                 We will prioritise collegial and team-spirited candidates with either (a) an earned PhD or equivalent from a reputable university with specialisation in any of the above-mentioned areas and some relevant work experience, or (b) extensive industry experience with demonstrated strong technical expertise in the above-mentioned areas. The Role Do you have a passion for video and live performance? GSA is seeking an experienced Performing Arts Technician (Video & Digital) to join our Technical Team within the Operations and Events Department at the University of Surrey. In this specialist role, you will support the delivery of GSA’s diverse programmes, with a particular focus on theatre productions, technical lectures, and live events. Working collaboratively with academic staff, professional colleagues, and students, you’ll help realise high-quality productions while sharing your expertise to develop the next generation of theatre professionals. You will play a key role in delivering: GSA productions and public performances Specialist technical support for lectures across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes Research events and student society activities Open days, conferences, lectures, and a variety of School and University events Our technical team provides equipment support, mentoring, maintenance, and expert guidance across all activity areas. Delivering an exceptional student experience is at the heart of everything we do About You You’ll bring professional experience in a video department within live performance, theatre, events, or a related field, ideally with some experience in a conservatoire or higher-education environment. We are looking for someone who has: Strong knowledge of current practices and techniques in professional theatre and live entertainment Excellent administrative, organisational, pastoral, and interpersonal skills The ability to supervise, mentor, and support students and freelance staff Confidence managing equipment, budgets, and maintenance processes Experience of video projection and mapping within live theatre or performance contexts would be advantageous. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Research Engineer (Microgrid Controller Design) will contribute to a one-year applied research project funded by the Singapore Army, focusing on the development of a mobile DC microgrid for military tactical applications. The role involves designing and implementing advanced control algorithms to coordinate multiple energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and diesel generators, and dynamically assign grid-forming roles under varying operating conditions. The engineer will develop, simulate, and test controller logic using MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments, analyse performance across diverse scenarios, and document results for technical reporting. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in control systems, software development, and power or energy management applications. Key Responsibilities Participate in the research project to design a mobile DC microgrid controller for military tactical applications. Develop control algorithms for dynamic master selection, coordinating BESS, PV, diesel generators, and other sources. Implement predictive, rule-based, or optimisation-based control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or embedded software tools. Integrate controller logic with the microgrid model and validate performance under different simulated conditions. Conduct testing of control strategies under various operating conditions such as extreme weather, load variation, equipment failure and deployment constraints. Prepare documentation, flowcharts, control logic diagrams, and controller specifications for the final report. Assist with procurement of software licences and technical equipment. Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with WSH regulations. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Work independently and collaboratively to maintain research software and project tools. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university. Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, or similar environments. Understanding of control systems, power electronics, or energy management strategies. Experience in microgrid controller design is advantageous. Familiarity with BESS control strategies, SOC management, or optimisation algorithms preferred. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Ability to implement and test algorithmic logic using simulation tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
