Your personal sphere of influence: At the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry our highly motivated interdisciplinary team offers a position for a PraeDoc in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to elucidate the role of transition metals in cancer growth and to exploit the unique properties of metal complexes in anticancer drug discovery. Projects will involve the characterization of biological activities of novel compounds, including metal complexes and/or metal-binding agents, in in-vitro cancer and immune cell models. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for preclinical development of novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team. The contract duration is 3 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An extension up to a total of 4 years is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate. Your future tasks: Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology will be centered on the biological effects of novel tumor-inhibiting compounds, including their impact on immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and therapy resistance mechanisms in human cell models. Characterization of bioactivities by cell and molecular biology-based methods including flow cytometry, (confocal) microscopy, and immunofluorescence will take place in coordination with experts in synthetic chemistry to enable the optimal design of potential cancer therapeutics. You will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration. You will participate in the preparation of internal reports, publications, academic articles, and presentations of scientific results at national and international conferences. You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months. You will work on your dissertation and its completion. You will teach courses independently to the extent specified in the collective agreement. You will instruct bachelor and master students and carry out administrative tasks in teaching and/or research. This is part of your personality: You have a diploma or master’s degree in molecular biology, immunobiology, biological chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, or equivalent qualification.  Experience in mammalian cell culture techniques (ideally working with cancer and immune cells) and characterization of compound bioactivity (ideally including flow cytometry and imaging-based methods). Basic experience in cancer research, immunology, and academic writing. Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in academic teaching (including e-learning) is desirable. Very good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German. Demonstrated high-level teaching skills and a reflective approach to language teaching. Knowledge of contemporary teaching, learning and assessment principles relevant to language learning. Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. In the process, research engineers gain valuable applied research capabilities aligned with evolving industry needs. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Conduct reviews on sustainability literature, frameworks and assessment tools for both generic industry-wide and industry-specific applications, such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental impact assessments, energy analysis and resource optimization studies Develop sustainability solution road mapping and development framework to supports identification and follow-through of sustainability solutions for organizational green transition. Support development of sustainability solutions and applications to implement organizational green transition through project execution (experimentation, data collection, analysis and evaluation) including includes but not limited to carbon management, circular economy, renewable energy, and sustainable materials. Industry Collaboration Support collaborations with industry partners to understand problem statements and contribute to solution development Assist in project scoping by gathering technical inputs and identifying relevant capabilities within the ecosystem (IHLs, research centres, industry partners) Participate in industry meetings, discussions, and project engagements Project Execution & Support Assist in planning and executing projects to ensure timely delivery of outcomes Generate technical reports, presentations, and documentation on the development of sustainability solutions and applications Contribute to grant proposals and project submissions where required Track project progress and maintain proper documentation of activities Job Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree with 5+ year experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ year experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering with sustainability training, or a related field or related disciplines with relevant experience in research, engineering, product development or sustainability related work. Possess understanding of sustainability concepts (e.g., LCA, carbon foot printing, resource efficiency) Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Resourceful, meticulous and problem-solving attitude. Key competencies:  Possess understanding of sustainability challenges faced by industries locally and globally Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with industry partners and stakeholders Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional and multidisciplinary environment.
