The Global Languages and Cultures Hub at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University was established in 2025 and is home to three dynamic centres: the Academic Literacies Centre (ALC), the English Language Centre (ELC), and the Modern Languages Centre (MLC).  The Modern Languages Centre (MLC) delivers high-quality language instruction and cultural education in Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish.   The Chinese Language Division offers diverse courses taught by 19 dedicated language lecturers. Students develop strong Chinese language skills and gain a deeper understanding of Suzhou’s and China’s unique cultures through tailored teaching materials and methodologies. Extracurricular cultural activities and field trips provide immersive, real-world opportunities to develop students’ communication skills and enhance their learning experience. Responsibilities and Duties Applications are invited for Chinese language teaching positions in the Global Cultures and Languages Hub at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) before 5th January, 2026. Candidates are sought as soon thereafter as possible. Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis. There will be opportunities for Chinese language lecturer to be involved in a range of different types of delivery, such as: Credit-bearing Chinese language modules from beginners to CEFR B2+ level, and Chinese language modules for Specific Purposes, i.e. Business Chinese, Credit-bearing Chinese content modules for degree students majoring in China Studies and Teaching Chinese as an International Language, i.e. Modern Chinese, Classical Chinese, Teaching Chinese as an International Language, Non-credit bearing Chinese courses, i.e. Practical Chinese Courses and Summer School, Engaging with Continuing Support Chinese language and cultural activities, HSK invigilation and item design. There will also be the opportunity for Chinese language lecturer to take on a managerial role with responsibility for the coordination and leadership of the Chinese teaching programmes. Additionally, there are opportunities for all staff to develop their careers by taking on wider managerial and administrative roles, as well as by contributing to both hub and university-level committees. All managerial, administrative and committee roles are appointed to on a fixed-term basis, thus providing all staff members with a range of options to take on responsibilities in areas that interest them. Qualifications/Experiences Successful applicants should be educated to Master’s degree level in a relevant area (e.g. Teaching Chinese as an International Language), and should have at least two years of post-master’s relevant teaching experience, preferably at university level. Additionally, applicants should have a good standard of written and spoken English, as this is the working language of the university. Familiarity with more than one language proficiency standard such as CEFR/HSK/ACTFL is a plus. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates who can demonstrate a dynamic, current and innovative engagement in one or more of the following areas: technology-enhanced language learning and assessment design; content and language integrated learning; Chinese for specific purposes (Business, Academic, etc.); communicative and task-based methodologies and project-based language learning. The project aims to uncover how animals with miniature brains can efficiently process multisensory stimuli. Using a powerful combination of techniques – high-resolution imaging, intracellular recordings and behavioural experiments – this project aims to uncover how beetles detect and respond to deep-red stimuli and infrared (heat) information. Results will provide new information about evolution and function of sensory systems and have the potential to unlock biological solutions for modern problems, including improved efficiency of sensors and image processing. The Research Officer will lead field expeditions to collect insects, primarily based in the mallee regions of Australia (particularly Western Australia) and forests in North America or Europe. They will have the opportunity to contribute to anatomical (e.g. electron microscopy), physiological (e.g., electrophysiology), and/or behavioural experiments (e.g. field studies, controlled laboratory studies). The Research Officer will join a world-class team and benefit from collaboration and training with leading scientists across multiple institutions, including Dr Patricia Jusuf (University of Melbourne), Prof Gregor Belušič (University of Ljubljana), and Prof Kentaro Arikawa (Graduate University for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI), with planned research visits to these groups during the project. The role provides variety and flexibility.
