The Medical University of Gdańsk is the largest medical academic institution in northern Poland. It is also northern Poland’s oldest medical university with its origins tracing back to 1945 with the Akademia Lekarska.

The university has four faculties: health sciences, medicine, pharmacy and the intercollegiate faculty of biotechnology. Across these faculties, the university offers 17 programmes in pre-medicine, medicine, pharmacy and nursing, which are all taught in English.

International students represent over 15 per cent of the student body and represent half of Gdansk’s international student population, coming from countries such as Sweden, Norway, India, the UK, US and more.

Their main hospital, the Invasive Medicine Centre and the new Non-Invasive Medical Centre are one of the largest and newest hospital complexes in Poland, covering obstetrics, neonatology, gynecology and more. The university also has a research centre that specialises in research on genetic aberrations acquired as a risk factor for cancer and other diseases.

Students at the university can enjoy a range of extra-curricular activities including the choir, sports and academic clubs including the Polish Pharmaceutical Students Assocation. Every year the university holds its Carnival Ball and post-inauguration picnic to bring the community together.
