The Early Career Awards (ECA) are designed to support Singaporeans who have recently completed their postdoctoral training and prepare them for an academic career at SIT. This award aims to enhance the teaching capabilities of the recipient and help build a strong research portfolio. The School of Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow in Palaeoceanography and Earth System Model Development. The successful applicant will work on the development and application of the cGENIE Earth system model on multiple sub-projects of the ERC grant ‘Determining the drivers of extinction across space and time’, under the supervision of institutional lead Dr. Richard Stockey and in collaboration with team members at the University of Oxford (led by Prof. Erin Saupe). The post holder will specifically work to generate a series of reconstructive models of 3D ocean biogeochemistry through 1) the last ~800,000 years and 2) the Phanerozoic (last ~540 million years). A key focus of this role is to conduct Earth system model development to improve representation of ocean biogeochemistry in space and time for the intervals focused on in this research project. This is a relatively short-term, specialist Earth system modelling position (15-month duration). The post holder is therefore expected to have prior experience in intermediate complexity Earth system modelling and experience integrating key components of Earth system evolution on these timescales, in particular linking model output to geochemical data and working with astronomical forcings. The successful candidate will either hold, or be nearing completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil and will have appropriate research experience alongside strong subject-specific expertise. They should be capable of working independently within established research programmes, managing their own research activities and contributing to academic publications. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to clearly present research ideas and findings, as well as representing the research group effectively in meetings and collaborative discussions.

You will oversee specialist computer labs, digital infrastructure and immersive technology environments, ensuring safe, effective and innovative technical support that enhances learning, teaching and research.  This is a hands-on leadership role for someone passionate about technology, digital innovation and enabling high-quality technical learning environments. Key responsibilities include: Leading, supervising and developing a multidisciplinary technical team across Technology provision  Managing specialist computer labs and digital environments including AI, data science, cyber security and creative computing  Supporting curriculum delivery, research and exhibitions through expert technical advice, demonstrations and workshops  Ensuring safe, compliant and well-maintained technical environments, embedding health and safety best practice  Working closely with academic colleagues, Central IT and professional services to align technical provision with teaching and research needs  Contributing to the continuous development of technical services, systems and future investment planning  Supporting the development and operation of high-performance computing, immersive technologies and specialist digital systems  About You You will be a confident and collaborative technical leader with experience in computing, digital technologies or related technical disciplines.
