James Cook University (JCU) is a leader in teaching and research that addresses the critical challenges facing the Tropics.

Our Australian campuses in Cairns and Townsville are on the doorstep of some of the world’s most spectacular environments: the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the rainforests of the Wet Tropics, the savannahs of Cape York Peninsula and the deserts of the arid outback. Our footprint extends beyond northern Queensland to include our Singapore campus, which combines research and teaching and demonstrates our commitment to the Asian region and internationalisation, particularly in the Tropics.

Our Singapore campus offers both international and Australian JCU students the opportunity to study in South East Asia’s commercial, technological and academic hub.

JCU also has a presence in Brisbane, with a campus operated by Russo Higher Education, providing courses to international students on behalf of JCU.

Navigate effectively between senior academic administration, academic functions, and operational support ensuring transparent communication regarding project status, challenges, and solutions. Monitor key performance indicators for academic excellence. Lead and oversee the academic cycle and Academic Council activities according to approved Terms of References. Required Qualifications Education & Experience Master's degree (PhD preferred) in the areas of “Gastronomy”, “Food Product Development”, “Food Sciences”, “Hospitality Management”, “Food & Beverage Management” or equivalent. Minimum 5+ years regular teaching responsibilities (including in higher education). Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage research projects with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Support research activities in one or more of the following areas: i. Advanced welding and automation technologies for steel fabrication and construction ii. Experimental investigation of high-strength aluminium alloy structures iii. Development and testing of lightweight and long-span earth retaining and stabilising structures iv. AI-enabled structural analysis, optimisation and design tools for high-efficiency, low-carbon composite building systems Plan and conduct experimental work, including but not limited to: i. Material and component testing ii. Structural behaviour testing of steel and aluminium members/connections iii. Fabrication trials and validation of welded structural components iv. Data acquisition, instrumentation and monitoring during laboratory testing Perform numerical modelling and simulation, such as finite element modelling, parametric studies, and calibration against test data. Assist in the development of design methodologies, engineering recommendations, and data-driven or AI-enhanced workflows for structural applications. Coordinate procurement, laboratory set-up, testing schedules, and liaison with vendors/suppliers and industry collaborators. Communicate with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables and milestones are achieved. Carry out risk assessment and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health regulations. Work independently, as well as within a multidisciplinary team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and research facilities. Job Requirements Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline. Demonstrated knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Structural steel or aluminium structures Welding, fabrication, or construction automation Experimental structural testing and instrumentation Numerical modelling and simulation AI/data-driven methods for engineering applications Familiarity with engineering software such as ABAQUS, ETABS, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent will be an advantage. Working in alignment with the University's research strategy, the appointee will undertake innovative, high-impact research in bionanotechnology and regenerative medicine. This nationally recognised program aims to advance fundamental understanding and translational applications within the discipline. Funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project, "Understanding Transient Cellular Response to Electrical Stimulation (DP250101190)," the role will focus on developing cutting-edge methodologies to investigate live cell responses to electrical stimulation with high spatial and temporal resolution. The Research Fellow will design and implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines to interrogate stem cell biology using multi-omics approaches, including RNA sequencing, proteomics, and secretomics datasets. Responsibilities include integrative analysis of complex molecular data, interpretation of cellular response mechanisms, and close collaboration with experimental researchers to uncover pathways regulating stem cell function and fate. The successful candidate will be supported to build an independent research profile through structured mentorship in competitive grant writing and opportunities to contribute to, and lead, fellowship and project applications. They will play a key role in planning and delivering high-quality research projects, establishing productive research networks within RMIT and with local and national partners, and producing impactful research outputs that strengthen the School's research excellence and reputation. We are looking for candidates with their knowledge and experience in the key focus areas: Essential Expertise in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, ideally working with human mesenchymal stromal/stem cells, and/or induced pluripotent stem cells. Expertise in bioinformatics, including RNA-sequencing, proteomics, secretomics, and pipeline development. Evidence of research outputs including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.
