Heidelberg University in the city of Tiffin in the US state of Ohio, was founded in 1850 as a school for the state’s German population by two Reverends of the German Reformed Church. The first classes took place on the upper floors of a commercial building in the town’s “Commercial Row” and were attended by five students. The first college building, Founders Hall, began construction in 1851 and remained the university’s only academic building for over 30 years. Throughout its early years the college ran a seminary alongside its educational institution and its mission was primarily to train Christian scholars. The university has broadened the scope of its education over time and student numbers have grown and in 2009 Heidelberg College became Heidelberg University. The university now offers a broad liberal arts program but it still retains ties to the Christian faith, promoting the ideals of integrity, thoughtfulness and academic excellence in its faculty and student body.

Today Heidelberg University students studying a broad range of postgraduate and undergraduate programs. The university offers 36 undergraduate courses, four graduate programs and 16 minors for students to choose from. Heidelberg University also has an innovative honours program called The Life of the Mind which allows students to study thematic areas. Heidelberg has links to the wider world with its long-running exchange program and international student body.

The university campus is 100 acres of landscaped grounds dotted with 26 buildings (10 of which are old enough to have been included on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places) housing academic, residential and administrative facilities. The university also has its own theatre, stadium and library as well as sports and leisure facilities.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST for a fixed-term appointment from 11 May, 2026 to 31 March, 2027, or as agreed. We seek an information systems specialist to join the ReliaCode project at the University of Helsinki. Our aim is to make LLMs usable in organisational settings with high reliability requirements, especially for reasoning about complex document collections. We’re building methods to make it easier to tell when LLM outputs can’t be trusted, and to improve systems efficiently from limited human feedback. The work is part of an early-stage initiative based in a university environment, with secured funding and a strong focus on real-world impact through pilot collaborations with organizations. The goal is to iteratively develop a product that could evolve either into a general-purpose platform for unstructured data processing or a focused solution in a specific domain. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of research and product, and to help shape the technical direction of a potential startup from the ground up. We are offering a year-long full-time contract with the possibility of continuing afterwards in a potential spin-out company. We are particularly looking for candidates with: Strong Python and software engineering skills Hands-on experience using LLMs in applications, especially with multiple model calls and high reliability requirements Experience evaluating LLM systems, including designing benchmarks and using evaluation signals to identify failures and improve system performance Familiarity with practical ML approaches for ranking or classification with noisy or limited signals Comfort working independently in an early-stage project and taking ownership of open-ended problems The following are seen as advanteges but not necessary: Experience working with unstructured data sources (e.g. documents, long-form text) Familiarity with machine learning or NLP, particularly in areas such as information extraction or human-in-the-loop systems Some experience building and maintaining applications used by others  Familiarity with standard software engineering practices (e.g. version control, code review, testing, iterative development) What we offer The University of Helsinki is an equal opportunity employer and offers an attractive and diverse workplace with a variety of development opportunities and benefits. SOLES has an international reputation for education and research, with well-funded external research collaborations across industry. The University of Sydney has significant strengths in plant breeding, crop production, plant biology and genetics, and agricultural robotics. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated computational biologist to join a multidisciplinary research team investigating plant-pathogen interactions through integrative computational modelling. You will develop and apply quantitative and data-driven models to study protein interactions and their context-dependent behaviour, linking computational predictions with condition-specific biological responses. You will have access to large-scale biological datasets, high-performance and cloud-based computing resources, and work in close collaboration with experimental biologists and external computational partners. The successful applicant will demonstrate clear potential to become a leader in their field, with a strong research trajectory focused on computational modelling of molecular interactions and regulatory processes to generate mechanistic insight into host-pathogen biology. Your research interests will complement and/or enrich existing strengths in the Institute and School in plant breeding, molecular biology, genetics and pathology.
