The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy was formally opened in 1981 to enable young officers to gain higher academic qualifications. In 1988 the institution was elevated to university status, and now has nine academic faculties offering over 34 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees: defence and strategic studies; medicine; engineering; law; management, social sciences and humanities; allied health sciences; built environment and spatial sciences; and computing. Students of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University have access to a range of sports and recreational facilities. Clubs include rotaract, national rover crew, toastmasters, eco club and music clubs. In addition, students are encouraged to undertake industrial visits, industry interaction and regularly scheduled guest speakers. Officer cadets at the university undergo military training alongside their academic studies. Their time at KDU includes weapon training and live firing, knowledge enrichment, team research and outdoor activities.

The Centres have joined forces to harness collective expertise to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer research and improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes through the publication and translation of co-designed research - the Daffodil Centre, through its overarching commitment to reducing inequities related to cancer and the Poche Centre, through its specific Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focus and partnerships. Co-designed and co-supported by the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and the Daffodil Centre, this joint Postdoctoral Research Fellowship aims to synergise the strengths of both Flagship Centres to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer research that seeks to improve health outcomes. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Daffodil and Poche Centres, on a 2-year Fellowship with the possibility of a 1-year extension, subject to performance and available funding. This career-launching role will support the Fellow to develop momentum towards becoming an independent researcher. We would like to hear from early career researchers who have recently completed a PhD related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, public health, epidemiology or health services research, with a strong research track record relative to opportunity. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in cancer research and a plan to have their postdoctoral research focused on improving equity and reducing disparities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. We are looking for applicants with experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.The successful applicant can either develop their own cancer research project with the support of their supervisors, if they have a particular cancer research interest, or they can choose to work on research projects from existing areas of expertise within the Daffodil and Poche Centres. The Centres have substantial methodological expertise, including in epidemiology, biostatistics, Yarning, consumer engagement research, health economics, health services research, implementation science, behavioural science, qualitative research and health policy. In this role, the scope of the cancer research at the Daffodil Centre would be from a perspective of prevention, screening, and early diagnosis, up to the treatment and survivorship rates.Examples of potential projects include:using datasets to understand risk factors for gynaecological cancer and conduct studies on how factors like menopausal age, oral contraceptive use and other reproductive factors influence health outcomes.leading a program of collaborative research examining skin cancer prevention and early detection in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This could include describing the epidemiology, incidence, mortality, risk factors and clinical management using linked datasets; and/or leading mixed methods research to inform the culturally acceptable design of a Roadmap for a National Targeted Skin Cancer Screening Program.How we can support youCulturally responsive mentorship and supervision, as well as connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research networks within the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) will be provided through the Poche Centre. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander postdoctoral Fellows will also be connected to the FMH First Nations Staff Network and the University Yura Staff Network. The Daffodil Centre provides the opportunity to connect with the Daffodil Centre Early and Mid-Career researcher (DREAM) network and offers career development opportunities. We seek an established researcher in quantum science and technologies with a strong and well-developed research track record, capable of leading and expanding SUAD’s research activities in this area. The successful candidate should demonstrate sufficient academic maturity to sustain an independent research program while contributing to the development of quantum-related teaching. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and academic excellence in teaching, research, and service within the Department and across Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD). As an accomplished scholar with a strong and internationally recognized research record in quantum technologies, the appointee is expected to develop an ambitious research program in theoretical physics and/or computer science, with a focus on quantum information and quantum technologies. Research activities may span the key pillars of quantum technologies—including quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum metrology, and quantum communication. The appointee will collaborate closely with Sorbonne University and leading research laboratories such as LKB and LIP6 and will receive the resources needed to build and consolidate a Quantum Research Group at SUAD, including access to dedicated funding and co funding mechanisms for doctoral fellowships, as well as opportunities to host visiting scholars. One of the roles of the Quantum Research Group will be to foster collaborations within the UAE and with prominent global partners, supporting the growth of national and regional quantum ecosystems and positioning SUAD as a hub for excellence in quantum science and technology. In addition to research leadership, the successful candidate will contribute to high quality undergraduate and postgraduate education, mentor students and junior faculty and play a central role in advancing the University’s academic mission. From a teaching point of view, the new Faculty will be mainly engaged in teaching intermediate to advanced courses in Physics, Quantum physics and Quantum Information in the programs offered at SUAD, including the Bachelor’s in Physics – Concentration in Quantum Technologies. It is worthwhile noting that the programs are designed by Sorbonne University in France, while teaching is delivered exclusively in English. The programs follow the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), and the diplomas are awarded by Sorbonne University. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and lead outreach activities in quantum science and technology, including public engagement and broader community programs, thereby strengthening societal understanding of quantum technologies and inspiring future generations.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST for a fixed-term appointment from 11 May, 2026 to 31 March, 2027, or as agreed. We seek an information systems specialist to join the ReliaCode project at the University of Helsinki. Our aim is to make LLMs usable in organisational settings with high reliability requirements, especially for reasoning about complex document collections. We’re building methods to make it easier to tell when LLM outputs can’t be trusted, and to improve systems efficiently from limited human feedback. The work is part of an early-stage initiative based in a university environment, with secured funding and a strong focus on real-world impact through pilot collaborations with organizations. The goal is to iteratively develop a product that could evolve either into a general-purpose platform for unstructured data processing or a focused solution in a specific domain. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of research and product, and to help shape the technical direction of a potential startup from the ground up. We are offering a year-long full-time contract with the possibility of continuing afterwards in a potential spin-out company.
