Dalton State College is part of the University System of Georgia, alongside 30 other colleges. Founded in 1963 by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, it is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The college is situated in Dalton, northwest Georgia, US - a city of 33,000.

Dalton offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors in accounting, biology, chemistry, communication, criminal justice, early childhood education, English, health information management, History, finance and applied economics, management, marketing, mathematics, psychology, respiratory therapy, social work, scientific technology, technology management and others. 

Its degrees are divided across its School of Business, School of Education - aiming to produce competent, collaborative, caring and reflective teachers, School of Health Professions - offering degrees ranging from nursing to health information management, School of Liberal Arts and School of Science, Technology and Mathematics. The School of Liberal Arts makes up most of the core curriculum taken by all undergraduate students.

The college’s principal campus covers an area of 146 acres in Whitfield County, Georgia, 30 miles south of Cattanooga and 80 miles north of Atlanta.

Dalton’s Athletics programme started in 2012. As part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Dalton offers golf, cross country, tennis, cheerleading, basketball and volleyball. In 2015, the men’s basketball team won the NAIA National Championship.

The college’s first fraternity was set up in 2014 but soon other Greek organisations for men and women followed.
