This institution was established as The Cameron State School of Agriculture in 1901 and named in honour of the Rev. E.D. Cameron, the first state Superintendent of Schools in Oklahoma.
For the first few years it offered a range of education levels but in 1941 high school courses were discontinued and Cameron became solely a junior college.
As the range of studies available continued to grow, the institution quickly outgrew its first name and became known as Cameron University in 1974. Today the university is primarily located in Lawton, Oklahoma, and offers more than 50 degree courses to its student population of over 5,000.
The university campus has seen huge investment in recent years which has resulted in the construction of the Cameron Village, a new student accommodation complex, the Cynthia S. Ross Hall which houses the Department of Business and Graduate Programs, and even the new Bentley Gardens, a 2.6-acre common that provides a fantastic outdoor leisure area for students.
Sports are a huge part of the life of a Cameron University students, and there are 11 sports teams representing the university in a variety of different disciplines. The men’s basketball team won the 1980 NAIA basketball championship, while the golf team became the national champions in 1983.
Notable former students include US Army General Doug Brown, and T.W. Shannon, the first African American Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. A number of sports stars have studied at Cameron University too, including basketball player Billy Paultz, American football player John Brandes, and Major League Baseball pitcher Jason Christiansen.

Are you interested in extragalactic astronomy and the study of galaxies and supermassive black holes? Would you like to work in a supportive, collaborative research group engaged in exploiting cutting-edge data from new ground and space-based facilities to address fundamental questions in galaxy evolution? Then this might be the right opportunity for you. The Astronomy Group within the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southampton invites applications for a Research Fellow in Observational Astrophysics to work with Professor Manda Banerji on an STFC funded research project on AGN and their host galaxies. You will exploit state-of-the-art data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space Time (LSST), Euclid and 4MOST to constrain the properties of supermassive black holes and their host galaxies and understand co-evolution across a large dynamic range in mass, and over cosmic time. You will be expected to work with colleagues in Southampton as well as international collaborators to lead scientific projects on AGN identification, and measurement of supermassive black hole and host galaxy masses using imaging and spectroscopic data from ground and space. The Southampton Astronomy Group provides a stimulating and collegial environment with many opportunities to collaborate with other group members. Our main research themes are galaxy evolution, compact objects, and time-domain astrophysics. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership to deliver an inspiring education, and transformative student experience, embedding new structures and ways of working across Mumbai and Bristol campuses. Key Responsibilities: 1. Educational Leadership, Culture, and Engagement Reporting to the Executive Dean. The key responsibilities will be as follow Provide leadership, operational and developmental capacity to the Executive Dean during a period of transformation within the MEC and the University, with an emphasis on Education and Students portfolio. Support the Executive Dean to lead MEC in developing a vibrant educational offer for students that aligns with UoB curriculum and strengthens pedagogic innovation Working in consultation with the Executive Dean, and in collaboration with University and Faculty stakeholders, support the strategic vision of delivering an attractive and inspiring education that equips students with skills for the future.
