World University Rankings 2018 by subject: clinical, pre-clinical and health

The 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings’ table for clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects employs the same rigorous and balanced range of 13 performance indicators used in the overall World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading medicine, dentistry and health subjects.

This year’s ranking has expanded to include 500 institutions, up from 100 last year.

The University of Oxford tops the table for the seventh year in a row while the University of Cambridge has climbed one place to share joint second with Harvard University.

The Netherlands has achieved a strong performance, claiming 10 places, up from six last year. Four of those six institutions have risen in the ranking.
Several institutions in Asia have also made gains; Kyoto University has jumped 23 places to joint 40th, the University of Hong Kong has risen eight places to 31st, and the National University of Singapore has climbed three places to 28th.

More than a fifth of institutions in the table (102) are in the US, while more than one in 10 (58) are based in the UK. The UK also has four newcomers in the top 100.
