The University of Reading began life in the 19th century as an extension College of the University of Oxford, before being awarded university status in 1926.
Reading is now a leading UK university and home to 17,000 students from over 150 countries. It offers a wide range of degree programmes encompassing the pure and applied sciences, social sciences, languages, arts, humanities and business.
With a reputation for multidisciplinary research and collaborations, the university comprises over 50 research centres, which are recognised centres of excellence, in areas that include agriculture, meteorology, the physical sciences, and European history and culture.
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 98% of Reading’s research was rated as being of international standing
It operates across three campuses. Its main Whiteknights campus has won awards for its 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, while the historic London Road campus has recently undergone a £30 million transformation. The Greenlands Campus, situated on the banks of the River Thames, houses one of Europe’s top business schools, along with a fitness centre, business facilities and conference centre,
The university has a strong global presence, with a business school located in Johannesburg, an overseas campus in Malaysia and a newly established joint Academy with Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in China. It is also runs the Thames Valley Science Park, a cluster of 70 high-tech companies located on its Whiteknights campus.
Reading’s various campuses also feature a sports park, a film theatre, four museums, 300,000 plant specimens, lakes, meadows and a cherry tree orchard.
Its Henley Business School holds triple-accredited status, while The Financial Times and The Economist both consistently rank it as being in the world’s top 50 business schools.
Reading is a lively city famed for hosting one of the biggest annual music festivals in the UK. Over 87,000 music fans attend Reading Festival each summer to see some of the biggest names in music. The Berkshire town is also home to an abundance of parks, shopping and sports facilities.

About the role The King’s Clinical Trials Unit (KCTU) is seeking to appoint a leading academic to the role of Professor of Early Phase Clinical Trial Statistics. This senior position provides an outstanding opportunity to lead and grow methodological and applied research in early phase clinical trials, particularly those involving novel therapies, biomarkers, and adaptive designs. You will join a world-class academic environment within King’s Clinical Trials Unit working with academics in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. You will work collaboratively with clinical and translational researchers, trialists, statisticians, and industry partners to deliver high-quality, innovative early phase trials in priority health areas. You will support a portfolio of externally funded research, contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision, and support the development of capacity in early phase methodology and implementation within the KCTU and more widely across King’s Health Partners. Provide academic leadership in early phase clinical trial statistics, including dose-finding, experimental medicine and proof-of-concept studies. Develop and an internationally recognised programme of methodological and applied research. Collaborate with clinicians and scientists to design, analyse, and report early phase trials across a range of clinical specialties. Contribute to the strategic direction and development of the King’s Clinical Trials Unit. Secure external funding from NIHR, MRC, UKRI, industry, and charitable sources. About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD or equivalent in medical statistics, biostatistics, or a related quantitative discipline. Proven track record of leading the statistical design and analysis of early phase clinical trials. Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals relevant to early phase methodology and applications. Demonstrable success in attracting significant external research funding. Experience supervising doctoral or postdoctoral researchers. Expertise in Bayesian and/or adaptive trial designs and dose-finding methodologies. About us: We are seeking to appoint a postdoctoral research associate with an excellent track record in semantic technologies and machine learning. Topics of interest in this area include, but are not limited to: natural language processing, large language models, graph learning, prompt engineering, knowledge graphs, knowledge engineering, linked data, web technologies. About the role: The successful candidate will join the Distributed AI (DAI) group in the Department of Informatics, King’s College London. They will carry out research in neuro-symbolic AI, with a focus on using generative and agentic AI, as well as AI standards to create trustworthy information resources. This includes the design of algorithms, tools, and process for knowledge workers to better organise knowledge bases and maintain the integrity of their information. The post holder will work closely with Prof Elena Simperl and a team of 15+ researchers and PhD students in the area of human-centric AI. The role covers research in the areas mentioned above, as well as the production of scientific publications and application showcases to drive research impact. The researcher will be expected to support impact creation activities, including hackathons, workshops, tutorials and to actively contribute to ongoing AI standardisation efforts such as MLCommons Croissant. The research and innovation outputs will inform work undertaken in the group in several large collaborative grants and application areas, including arts and culture, enterprise data management, legal compliance. The ideal candidate will have solid expertise in the technical areas mentioned earlier, as well as a proven track record of scientific excellence (through publications in A and A* conferences and journals) and of open science and FAIR practices (through software, datasets and other research outputs, participation in challenges etc). Job Details This Research Fellow will contribute to the UrEco 2030+ project: “Optimizing Urban Ecosystem Services Model for Urban Climate and Biodiversity in Singapore towards 2030 and Beyond.” This position requires experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related fields, with added expertise in ecosystem services assessment, ecological engineering, social sciences, policy making, environmental science, and/or urban environmental issues at the policy–academic interface. This position is ideal for an early- or mid-career researcher with experience in GIS or remote sensing who seeks to apply and expand their expertise in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment. The successful candidate will work with leading researchers and contribute to cutting-edge research and policy dialogues at the intersection of blue–green infrastructure, tropical urban ecosystem services, and urban resilience (covering themes such as urban flooding, thermal cooling, recreation, and biodiversity). The work includes Local Climate Zone (LCZ) classification and collaboration with Japanese university partners for integrated macro- to micro-scale analysis. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Identify, simulate, and analyse ecosystem service models using GIS, remote sensing, and field data.
