Description NYU Abu Dhabi Community Programs oversee multiple initiatives, including the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Community Programs, which consist of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program and the NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy. In addition, NYU Abu Dhabi Community Programs administer the Arab Film Studio Young Filmmakers Workshop and the NYU Abu Dhabi PhD Pathways Program. The Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program offers a select cohort of talented university students access to specially designed courses, lectures, leadership experiences, networking, and graduate school counseling. We admit scholars from among the most outstanding students at the three federal UAE universities: Higher Colleges of Technology, the United Arab Emirates University, and Zayed University. The Scholars Program has been developed in close consultation with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE federal universities, and New York University Abu Dhabi. The NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy is an 18-month university preparation program designed to enhance the academic profiles of highly motivated Emirati high school students. The program features intensive instruction in Leadership and Public Speaking, Critical Thinking and Writing, Mathematical Reasoning for the Sciences, College Readiness and Success, and IELTS Preparation over the course of two summers and an intervening academic year. The Arab Film Studio Young Filmmakers Workshop, a collaboration between Image Nation Abu Dhabi and NYU Abu Dhabi, is a three-week program for Emirati high school students that enables and enhances filmmaking skills. Participants from across the UAE are exposed to the teachings and experience of leading industry professionals. From screenwriting, and directing to camera and post-production, the three weeks come to a close with a screening of a collection of short films that are written and directed by the participants. The NYUAD PhD Pathways Program, is a first of its kind in the UAE, NYUAD’s PhD Pathways Program aims to address the challenge of underrepresentation of Emirati PhDs and professors in higher education, through enhanced and early access to research experience, mentorship, skill acquisition, exploration of research careers, and graduate school preparation. Principal Responsibilities The Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program (SMSP) Serve as a Public Speaking and Public Presentation instructor or Teaching Assistant as required Lead the coordination and organization of guest speakers, leadership activities, and workshops. This includes inviting distinguished leaders or speakers, arranging their visits, and planning engaging leadership activities to enhance the learning experience for the scholars during experiential learning weekends or as required, according to the SMSP academic calendar. The program begins during the summer following the 10th year of high school and continues for the following 18 months, with two intensive summer courses of study in Abu Dhabi and possible international travel to New York, or regional travel. In addition, students participate in online study and academic refresher weekends during the academic year. The program goals include: University Preparation Instill in students the intellectual resources and skills necessary for success at top-tier, English-language universities through the 18-month curriculum. Liberal Arts Education Introduce students to the study of the humanities and to the value of a liberal arts education. Cultural Awareness Develop students' understanding of the cultural norms of Western universities. Test Preparation Prepare students to excel on the standardized tests necessary for university entry. The NYUAD Community Programs, invites applications for an academic support role: Academic Affairs Coordinator. The appointment will be for two years starting as soon as possible. The Academic Affairs Coordinator will be responsible for coordination across these two high-level community outreach programs. This individual will have the unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team to identify and execute areas for improved academic and organizational effectiveness across both programs. The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for the position of PROFESSOR OF RUSSIAN for a fixed-term appointment from 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2029. The position is based at the Department of Languages. The appointee’s duties include conducting and supervising research on the Russian language, delivering research-informed teaching, following developments in scholarship, and participating in public engagement and international collaboration in the field. The appointee will also contribute to a range of administrative and expert duties within the University community. JOB DESCRIPTION The position covers research on the Russian language and related teaching. The successful candidate is expected to be a scholar of the Russian language with an international profile and demonstrable capacity for research leadership. The role requires a versatile language scholar who, in addition to specialist expertise in Russian, possesses skills aligned with the University’s strategic plan and the focus areas of the Department of Languages. Research experience in other Slavic languages will be considered an asset. The professor of Russian will conduct and supervise scholarly research and deliver teaching across the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in languages and the Doctoral Programme in the Humanities. The appointee will be responsible, alongside other teachers in the discipline, for advanced teaching in Russian language and literature. They must be able to deliver teaching informed by their own research, supervise doctoral and other theses as well as postdoctoral researchers, head research projects, and follow developments in scholarship. The role also includes administrative duties and public engagement. In addition, the professor is expected to contribute to other teaching in the Master’s Programme in Languages and other degree programmes, including shared methodological and theoretical provision across study tracks. APPOINTMENT CRITERIA The appointee must hold a doctoral degree and possess advanced academic qualifications, experience in leading scholarly research, the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise theses, and evidence of international collaboration in their research field. Additionally, professors must possess academic leadership skills. The assessment of applicant merits considers both scholarly and teaching merits. The former include scholarly publications and other research results of scholarly value, success in obtaining external research funding, scholarly work outside Finland and international elected positions. The latter include teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, additional teaching merits, a demonstration of teaching skills if required, and involvement in doctoral education. Also considered are applicants’ leadership and interaction skills and their active engagement in the academic and wider communities. Holders of teaching and research positions at Finnish universities must be proficient in the language in which they provide instruction, in this case Russian. To successfully perform their duties, the appointee must also have excellent English skills. SALARY The salary will be based on levels 8–10 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The position carries an annual salary of €80,500–€99,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and includes a six-month trial period.
