About High Point University

Basic information and contact details for High Point University

institution

High Point University was founded in 1924 in the city of High Point in the US state of North Carolina. The university was founded after citizens of the town pledged 60 acres of land and $100,000 towards the building of a new college which had been proposed by the Methodist Protestant Church in 1921. When courses began in 1924 there were three university buildings, nine faculty and around 120 students. Since that time the university has grown, despite facing financial difficulties during the Great Depression and today it offers a wide range of programs to its thousands of students. The college changed its name to High Point University in 1991 in light of its programs of graduate education. Today High Point University is a thriving private liberal arts university which retains its affiliation to the Methodist Church.

High Point University offers a wide range of postgraduate and undergraduate programs of study. There are in the region of 50 undergraduate majors and 50 minors available for students to pick from as well as roughly 10 postgraduate programs. The university consistently ranks well among similar institutions in the southern United States and has received recognition for the quality of its teaching and its graduates. Subjects are split into seven schools covering arts and sciences, business, education, art and design, health, communication and the graduate school.

The University campus covers 380 acres in a suburban setting. The campus has 19 different residential buildings as well as 13 different on-campus dining locations. There is also a fine arts centre and chapel as well as an amphitheatre and state of the art student centre containing a bookstore, post office and sport and leisure facilities.

Led by Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, the team includes a diverse group of researchers—spanning qualitative and quantitative disciplines—alongside clinicians, students, research nurses, and trial coordinators. Together, they work across a wide range of translational oncology projects, with a particular focus on the development and implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). A key strand of TOUR’s work involves collaboration with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Group, where the team contributes to the development and validation of tools to assess health-related quality of life in cancer patients. These projects often involve international partnerships and span a variety of cancer types and treatment contexts. This post will support the studies with the EORTC as well as a collaborative quality of life research project with The Royal Marsden Hospital, focusing on the integration of patient perspectives into cancer care. The successful candidate will be based within the TOUR team and will hold an honorary contract with The Royal Marsden, enabling access to data and facilitating close collaboration with clinical and research colleagues across both institutions.  About the role We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join the TOUR (Transforming cancer OUtcomes through Research) team at Guy’s Cancer.
