The University of Sharjah (UOS), established in 1997, is a private, national, co-educational university situated in University City, Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. UOS has proven that with proper leadership, a young university can compete with its more senior peers. UOS now includes 14 colleges, offering over 120 diverse academic programs.

A few kilometers from the shores of the Arabian Gulf, the Sharjah university campus houses the main campus together with the Medical and Health sciences campus, and the Fine Arts and Design campus. In addition to a branch in Al Dhaidh City. UOS architecture lends full expression to its Islamic and Arabic heritage, while providing facilities including study halls, laboratories, libraries, state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and computing labs, theatres, two major sports complexes, and student centers with restaurants and shops.

The project: RE-SECURE – Remaking Security: Technopolitics in the Global East explores how expertise developed under past political regimes can be renegotiated and adapted for new security purposes. Focusing on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as a region marked by profound political transformations from the Cold War to the present, the project rethinks the study of security by theorizing how ways of “doing security” are shaped by history, technology, and global connections. The project examines both the symbolic and material dimensions of remaking security, while combining desk research, archival work, and field research. By analysing how technoscientific practices interact with societal understandings of security risks and global politics, RE-SECURE aims to develop an original, historically grounded, and decentered perspective on security from the perspective of the “Global East.” Your future tasks: The postdoctoral researcher will lead a case study on cybersecurity in Estonia, examining how Cold War cybernetic expertise has been reworked in the context of post-socialist security transformation of Estonia, especially towards the digital statehood, cybersecurity, and cyber-defence politics. The case study research will involve document analysis, field research with scientists, experts, and policymakers, and archival work in Estonia. The postdoc will contribute to the theoretical and methodological research on the project and will collaborate closely with the Principal Invetsigator and PhD student. The Role and the Department The Student Journey Futures (SJF) Programme, jointly led by Computing and Information Services (CIS) and Student and Academic Services Directorate (SASD), is delivering a multi-million pound programme of change. This role will be a 2-year fixed term role on one of the universities key strategic projects. This role will report into the SJF Programme Director but will work in a matrix management structure with close links into our Strategy Delivery Unit for alignment to our Change and Project Delivery approaches. The Strategy Delivery Unit is focussed on changing the way Durham University thinks about and delivers change, primarily focusing on the co-ordination and professional delivery of the University strategy. The post holder will work with the following teams: Student Recruitment & Admissions, Widening Participation, Academic and Quality Services, Student Finance, Student Records and support to academics, Teaching and administrative services across the organisation that underpin the day-to-day activities of the whole organisation. We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with outstanding interpersonal skills and a focus on successful implementation of change. The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for the provision of change management expertise within the SJF Programme. Post holders' activity will include diagnosing stakeholders needs, providing guidance / promoting best practice approach to change, influencing stakeholders to get buy-in, agreeing a tailored approach to the project, application of change management tools in collaboration with change teams and overall support to change activity. You will need to develop quickly an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the University's structure and processes.
