We are looking for qualified and committed Course Tutors in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join us at the Centre for English Language Education (CELE). About Centre for English Language Education (CELE) Since the development of the Nottingham Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high-quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China. With around 90 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of most well-renowned of its kind globally, currently supporting students on UNNC Preliminary Year modules, presessionals, summer schools and in-sessional language and academic skills support programmes. Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified English language teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in one or more of the following key fields: EAP/ESP teaching, including online teaching and support through Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) EAP/ESP syllabus and curriculum design EAP/ESP assessment Teacher training (experience in the delivery of internationally recognized qualifications such as CELTA, DELTA and their equivalents preferred) Successful applicants must have obtained a complete MA/MSc in TESOL, ELT, Applied Linguistics, or equivalent, with evidence of an assessed teaching practicum contained therein. A recognized formal Teaching Qualification (if not part of degree), such as Cambridge ELA DELTA or LTCL DipTESOL with English as a first language (or equivalent competence) is also essential. University foundation-level preparation and teaching experience, where the medium of study is English, is an advantage. Tutors will primarily join the team responsible for delivering a portfolio of intensive EAP classes and continuing support to students. However, dependent on individual tutors’ aptitude and experience, there is also scope for involvement in specific projects around teacher training, curriculum or assessment design, and the design and delivery of bespoke training packages in various aspects of ESP. Main Responsibilities Teaching up to a maximum of 18 hours per week (to agreed standards from a given syllabus) on both credit-bearing and support EAP/ESP courses, as required. Working week to also include approx. 14 hours of teaching preparation, marking and feedback as required, and other administrative duties relating to teaching (standardisation, report writing, attendance of regular course and general meetings). To participate in assessments and to act as invigilator in such examinations as required. Pastoral and academic care of students via an established personal tutorial system. To contribute to course and curriculum development and design, including course management, where appropriate. To take part in and contribute to staff development activities consistent with continuous professional development. Person Specification (Essential) Completed MA/MSc in TESOL / ELT / Applied Linguistics (or equivalent). Evidence of an assessed teaching practicum contained therein. Recognized formal Teaching Qualification (if not part of degree), e.g.: CAE DELTA, LTCL DipTESOL, PGCE/PGCertEd Confidence in analysing language and providing constructive and explicit feedback on students’ spoken and written work Ability to work in a team and to teach and assess to agreed criteria Ability to work under pressure and meet administrative/marking deadlines Good oral and written presentation skills, including excellent word-processing skills IT skills essential including ability to deliver teaching and support through VLEs such as Moodle and Teams English as a first language, or equivalent English language competence Substantial experience of full-time EFL teaching together with significant EAP teaching (e.g. UK University summer ‘Presessional’ teaching) Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support Salary will be within the range of RMB 353,847- RMB 482,256 per annum, depending on skills and experience, and salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and medical insurance will be provided for international appointments.
