Times Higher Education has won two prestigious awards at a ceremony honouring UK companies backed by private equity and venture capital funds.

THE won the national medium-sized company award and was also a winner in the regional category for London and the south-east at the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association’s (BVCA) Vision 2023 awards.

The judging panel said they were “very impressed” by THE’s submission, which scored highly against the four themes for growth, competitiveness, innovation, and environmental, social and corporate governance.

The prizes were handed out at a ceremony held at the London Hilton on Park Lane hotel on 22 November.

Paul Howarth, THE’s chief executive, said that there was “no other business quite like THE offering the breadth and depth of products and services across higher education, on a global basis”.

THE’s mission is to help universities around the world continuously improve for the benefit of students and society, and I’m delighted the organisation’s incredible hard work has been recognised with these two prestigious awards,” Mr Howarth said.

THE has been owned by private equity firms since 2005 and was acquired by Inflexion Private Equity in 2019. It now employs 327 staff and has a turnover of more than £40 million, attracting more than 66 million website visits annually and serving more than 3,000 customers across all continents.

Headquartered in London, THE has offices in Bristol, Leeds, Washington DC, San Francisco, Singapore and Melbourne. It has gone through a period of rapid growth and this and last year has acquired four high-profile businesses: Poets&Quants, the leading provider of news and resources for prospective graduate business students worldwide; dataHE, the rapidly growing provider of code-based data analysis for UK universities; BMI, the leading organiser of international student recruitment events; and Inside Higher Ed, the US-based higher education news provider.

Michael Moore, BVCA’s chief executive, said: “Times Higher Education is a leading example of a business demonstrating initiative and exceptional performance in 2022. We are pleased to celebrate their growth and achievements on both a regional and national scale at the Vision awards this year.”
