While there are thousands of universities in the world, SUSTech is quickly separating itself from the pack. On September 20, 2018, the Nature Index 2018 Rising Stars list showed that 51 of the world's 100 fastest-rising organizations were from China. Among them, SUSTech was ranked fourth. The rankings explicitly discussed SUSTech, which has more than four times the index's growth and ranks first among the rising stars of young universities. In May 2017, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released the "Best China. University Rankings". SUSTech’s published works were cited more than any other mainland China university on average, giving it the No. 1 domestic rank for excellence in citations. In February 2018, according to the "2018 China University Evaluation", SUSTech ranked 2nd in the country for teaching and research efficiency indicators. Then, in July 2018 SUSTech debuted in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) where both its chemistry and material science majors were ranked within the top 1% of such majors in the world.
Part of this growth has come from our highly accurate and specialized comprehensive admission mode, the “6-3-1 Evaluation.” This system of evaluation not only considers a student’s national college entrance examination, but also gives an in-house academic apparatus test to measure an in-coming student’s innovation abilities. The goal at SUSTech is to admit students that will both thrive in and deepen the pool of innovative talents maturing in its research departments and academic programs.
