Ice Vision - Computer Vision for Autonomous Vehicles Contest - starts in Moscow
From July 12 to July 16, Moscow will host the second international university hackathon for computer vision - Ice Vision. The topic of the hackathon is the recognition of road signs and markings in winter conditions based on computer vision technology. The prize fund is $ 45,000, and special prizes from partners are also provided.
Ice Vision participants will be developing software that will allow an unmanned vehicle to analyze data from stereo cameras or lidars and correctly recognize the traffic situation in adverse Russian winter conditions: during precipitation, under counter sunlight, fog, insufficient lighting, and uncleaned carriageway. High precision recognition of signs in all weather conditions is a necessary requirement for creating a level 5 unmanned vehicle, i.e. able to move completely without a driver in any weather conditions on any public road. At the moment, this problem has not been completely solved by any of the manufacturers of unmanned vehicles, therefore it is relevant at the global level.
Ice Vision hackathon will be held in 2 stages. At the first stage, participants will be asked to distantly solve a test task, posted on the official website of the hackathon, before June 15. The best teams of participants will receive an invitation to the on-site stage, which will be held from July 13 to 16, 2019 in Moscow.
Pupils, students and young professionals from any country in the world can apply for participation in the competition. Age of the applicants should be from 14 to 30 years old. The registration fee is not required. Accommodation and meals are provided by the host. Travel to the venue and back - at the expense of the participants. A unique architectural monument of the constructivism era - the NUST MISIS student residence Commune House - will be the main platform for the hackathon.
The international hackathon dedicated to computer vision technology and unmanned transport is held for the second time and is based on the successful experience of the VisionHack hackathon, which took place in 2017. There were 27 teams from Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Spain, and China at VisionHack.
The Ice Vision contest is organized by one of the leading Russian technical universities NUST MISIS and the Russian Venture Company.
