Innovative medical and healthcare technologies from NCKU catch visitors’ attention at Medical Fair Thailand 2019
Medical Fair Thailand 2019 – the leading trade fair for the medical and healthcare industry in South-east Asia – was held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center over three days in September. In order to establish an international network and expand R&D results to the South-east Asian market, Global Research and Industry Alliance (GLORIA) NCKU went to Thailand with four teams and one corporate member. Innovative technologies from NCKU attracted the interest of many international industry players and they will keep in touch for future industry-university cooperation.
Medical Fair Thailand is a biennial exhibition that continues to go from strength to strength as South-east Asia’s most international platform for the medical and healthcare industry. Focused on equipment and supplies for the hospital, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, medical and rehabilitation sectors, it provides visitors with the best business opportunities to navigate the dynamic marketplace of Thailand and South-east Asia. Exhibitors and professionals come from all over the world, including Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia, North America, the Middle East, the European Union and so on. In 2019, there were nearly 1,000 national exhibitors and 21 national pavilions exhibiting more than 10,000 advanced medical products.
Meet Tec Co Ltd, a start-up company supported by NCKU, develops and manufactures special polymer formulations for coating different materials such as plastic, paper and metals. With a single membrane coating, products can be endowed with multiple functions to enhance their value and competitiveness.
EZsignal Biotech Co Ltd is a start-up company under the support of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and NCKU. It mainly develops products related to the smart mobile rapid detection system for in vitro diagnostic test reagents, including an immunoassay analyser for professional use and app detection systems for home healthcare.
The smart exercise system, consisting of internet of things exercise machines, exergames and user interface, was exhibited by the Medical Device Innovation Center at NCKU. A customised exercise prescription is performed by an algorithm and the user can immediately access their personalise exercise programme based on their body information.
Highlights also included the world’s first dengue virus serotyping rapid test by Eternal Materials, which can provide doctors with virus serotype information in less than 30 minutes, aiding early diagnosis and medical treatment suggestions.
The technology and products exhibited by NCKU at this trade show attracted plenty of interest from manufacturers, researchers and related practitioners, which will help NCKU to expand its industry, study and research community in South-east Asia. GLORIA NCKU will connect these international manufacturers to provide a more comprehensive understanding of medical devices technology from NCKU.
