Clearing 2015: Twitter users offer their advice to students

Times Higher Education encouraged its followers to reveal their top tips ahead of clearing

Last year, about one in 10 students who started university got their place through clearing.

It can be a stressful time for those who don’t quite get the A-level results that they were hoping for, so we asked our Twitter followers to offer students who are about to go through the clearing process their top tip, using the hashtag #MyClearingTip.

Here are some of the highlights.


Remember, say Kalwant Bhopal and Elisia Green, it is not all about the course. You’re probably going to be spending at least three years at your new university, so do a bit of research on the location.

Hywel Davies, however, emphasised the importance of studying the course you want to (even if it means ditching the university that you originally had in mind).

Bhavik Patel reminds students that they are not making this decision alone. Give your chosen university a call!

Catherine Fletcher, Caroline Brown and Johnny Rich urged students not to rush in too foolishly...

 ...while Tom Price recommended a more direct approach.
