This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a celebrated memoir:

"I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is December 3.

Last week's winner, who identified Ken Kesey's Sometimes a Great Notion, was Jenny Mallinson of Hull.
