First Impressions

This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a non-fiction work by a science-fiction master:

"The story of our world is a story that is still very imperfectly known."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is June 19.

The winner of last week's competition, who identified Vatsyayana's Kamasutra (translated by Wendy Doniger and Sudhir Kakar), was Ben Crabstick of New College, Oxford.
