First Impressions

This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a novel written while the author was seriously ill at the beginning of the First World War:

"I returned from the City about three o'clock on that May afternoon pretty disgusted with life."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is March 6.
