This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a novel filmed by a famous Japanese director:

"At about nine o'clock one morning, at the end of November, during a thaw, a train of the St Petersburg-Warsaw line was approaching St Petersburg at full steam."
The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is April 6.
