This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a zoologist who kept a famous zoo:

"July had been blown out like a candle by a biting wind that ushered in a leaden August sky."

The winner receives a £25 Blackwell's voucher.

The closing date is June 10.

The winner of last week's competition, who identified Charles Dickens' The Old Curiosity Shop is Ann Hobbs of Royal Holloway, University of London.
