First Impressions

This week's First Impressions, the competition in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, comes from the observations of a Danish police reporter in New York:

"Long ago it was said that 'one half of the world does not know how the other half lives'."

The winner receives a £20 book token and the closing date is May 12.
