This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a work - half treatise, half novel - that described how education could elicit the natural goodness of children.

"God makes all things good; man meddles with them and they become evil."

The winner receives a £20 book token and
the closing date is Janueary 12.
