World University Rankings 2019 by subject: psychology

The 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings’ table for psychology subjects uses the same rigorous and balanced range of 13 performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading across psychology; educational, sport, business and animal psychology; and clinical psychology subjects.

This year, we have made a small adjustment to the eligibility criterion for academic staff in the subject tables, which has resulted in more universities being eligible for inclusion. The 2019 psychology ranking has also expanded to include 463 universities, up from 101 last year.

Stanford University, UCL and Princeton University take the top three spots in the table once again, while the University of Chicago and the University of Pennsylvania make their debuts at fourth and fifth respectively.

Several prestigious institutions feature in the ranking for the first time as a result of the eligibility criteria change.
