Job description: As a Senior Lecturer, you will work in the fields of ethics and applied ethics. Your field of work is the scientific teaching of the bachelor's and master's degree programs in philosophy as well as the teachers program in Ethics, as well as in the Master’s program in “Interdisciplinary Ethics.” In these areas, you will regularly teach courses on the basics of philosophical ethics, the history of ethics, as well in special fields of applied ethics. The 32-hour work week includes 11 semester hours (SWS) of academic teaching. The intention to raise working hours to a full-time position (40-hours and 14 semester hours) is much appreciated. Description of tasks: You independently teach 11 semester hours of courses at the bachelor's and master's level. You actively contribute to the (further) development of course and examination formats. We expect ongoing engagement with the current state of research, further training in teaching methodology, and the taking over of research tasks during semester breaks. In addition, administrative tasks, in particular in the administration of teaching, are part of the job profile. This is part of your profile: Completed doctorate/PhD in the field of Philosophical Ethics or Applied Ethics. Several years of independent teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution. Enthusiasm for passing on knowledge and for university teaching. Excellent knowledge of German and English; the ability to teach in German language. The capacity to teach in English is very welcome. The Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher, IsoMuseomics for a fixed-term period of three years. The work will be based at the Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland. The postdoctoral researcher will join the IsoMuseomics project, and work under the supervision of Kyung Min Lee, the Head of DNA Laboratory and University Researcher. This position is part of Lee’s four-year Academy Project, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The successful candidate is expected to start ideally by September 2026. About the position The IsoMuseomics project aims to trace genomic changes across a wide time span - up to 200 years - to understand how environmental changes have impacted their genomic diversity. The project focuses on Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) as model system, that are currently threatened or vulnerable, which serve as important ecological indicator. By analysing historical specimens from museum collections (dried and pinned specimens), we can investigate how these changes are encoded in their DNA, across both spatial and temporal scales. The majority of genomic data will be generated from historical museum specimens, which typically yield highly fragmented DNA. The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily responsible for:  Designing and analysing genomic datasets derived from fragmented whole-genome data Conducting genome assemblies and SNP calling Performing phylogenomics and population genomic analyses Contributing to manuscript writing Qualifications  The position requires:  A doctoral degree relevant to the project (e.g., biology, genomics, evolutionary biology) Less than seven years since obtaining the PhD  Ability to conduct independent scholarly work Strong collaboration and communication skills Teaching skills necessary for the position  Excellent written and spoken English skills  Highly valued qualifications: Experience working with highly fragmented genomic data and museomics Strong bioinformatics skills Proficiency in command-line scripting and programming Knowledge of phylogenomics and population genetics Why conduct a postdoctoral project at the University of Helsinki? Transfer of collected scientific data, data backup/cloud-based infrastructure for collected data and study-related products. Assisting with the organization and post-processing of collected raw data for use in ongoing projects within the context of the Study Participant Platform (SPP). In particular, advanced statistical analysis methods (latent profile analysis, network analysis) and statistical software packages will be utilized. Clinical research in Mood Disorders The Faculty of Medicine and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are collaborating in a clinical research study, led locally by Professor David Baldwin, investigating the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation in patients with depression. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with strong research and organisational skills to develop their expertise. The post involves undergoing training in certain psychopathological rating scales, providing study information and assessing potential study participants, monitoring participant progress during the study, entering data into on-line systems, assisting with study awareness-raising, and attendance at local and national research team meetings.
