Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University

The Zaporozhye State Medical and Pharmaceutical University was originally part of the Women’s Pedagogical Courses, established in 1903. In 1959, the pharmaceutical institute was relocated to the former Cossack stronghold of Zaporozhyea, in South East Ukraine. Since then, it has undergone a succession of reorganisations and name changes, most recently in 2022.

International students have been coming here since 1973, when 106 students from 22 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America were enrolled. 

Today, students can take a degree course in one of nine areas of study: medicine; paediatrics; dentistry; pharmacy; biotechnology and bioengineering; medical diagnostics and treatment technologies; therapy and rehabilitation; medical psychology; and nursing (cosmetology). 

Students acquire practical skills in 30 treatment and prevention facilities, 12 dental centres and 107 basic pharmacies. The university clinic has a hospital with 160 beds and an outpatient clinic receiving 240 visits per shift. There are also centres and laboratories in a number of specialisms.

It offers a sports stadium, as well as three gyms, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a shooting range and a fitness club. It also lists its chess and draughts club among the sports clubs on offer. 

There are music, singing and dance clubs, as well as Jolly and Quick-Witted Club. Students’ talents are celebrated in various university festivals, which include the festival of international friendship.
