About Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University

The Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University was officially established in 1992. However its history can be traced back to 1931 when the Stalingrad Industrial Pedagogical Institute was founded.

Unfortunately, the Stalingrad Industrial Pedagogical Institute was completely destroyed by the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. Then in 1961, once the institution had been rebuilt, the city of Stalingrad faced political reforms and was renamed Volgograd. As a result, the institution had to change its name to the Volgograd State Pedagogical Institute. In 1992 it was granted university status and became the Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University.

The city of Volgograd is located in southwest Russia, along the bank of the Volga River. Volgograd’s history as the former site of the Battle of Stalingrad makes it a popular tourist destination. People travel across the globe to visit the city’s numerous museums and statues that were built to commemorate the battle. The city is also home to the university’s campus, which is comprised of four main buildings.

The university has 16 faculties that students can choose to specialise in; these include engineering, foreign languages, mathematics, and psychology and social work among others. Research is an important part of the university, which is why there are approximately 43 research centres and laboratories.

International students are an important part of the student body. Students from over 20 countries study at the university every year. The university has scientific and academic partnerships with universities around the world including in Austria, France, Germany, and the USA.

For 10 consecutive years the university has ranked among the top 10 pedagogical and linguistic universities in Russia.
