About University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia

The University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia(UVic-UCC), a publicly supported independent institution, came into being as the result of local civic initiatives, reviving a university tradition in the city that dates back to the Middle Ages. It was founded in 1997 after several years of activity as a centre of higher education associated with other Catalan universities. We aim to foster higher education, postgraduate training and scientific and cultural research activities, and knowledge transfer; paper and multimedia publishing; grants to support all these activities; and economic and social regional development. Currently the university has campuses at Vic and Manresa and also has the BAU School of Design and the EADA Business School in the city of Barcelona. All university activities are based on a humane approach to education, promoting contact between faculty and students, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, and a capacity to respond to new demands. We have set up multidisciplinary partnerships between fields, both within and beyond the university. We strive for academic rigour and excellence, together with transparency, accountability, access for all and an ambitious international outlook. We have developed a distinctive training model of personalised learning and support to ensure personal growth and a professional orientation for our graduates. Multilingual training is a high priority to enhance mobility of university students and staff. All UVic-UCC degree courses include credits in English for professional purposes. UVic-UCC seeks to provide in-service teacher training, support for the tutorial system and teaching innovation. We are a local university, committed to the economic and social development of our region, through teaching, research and knowledge transfer, with a European vocation and international outlook.
