Université des Sciences et de la technologie d'Oran Mohamed-Boudiaf (or The University of Science and Technology of Oran-Mohamed-Boudiaf) is located in the commune of Bir El Djir in the east of Oran, in Algeria. Established in 1986, it was named the University of Science and Technology of Oran (USTO) and designed by Japanese architect Kenzō Tange. It was then renamed the University of Science and Technology of Oran-Mohamed-Boudiaf in memory of assassinated President Mohamed Boudiaf. In front of the university, there is the large, modern Oran University Hospital (EHU Oran) which is used extensively by the Faculty of Medicine Moulay-Driss-Mansouri (or the USTO Faculty of Medicine) to train student doctors and nurses. It has sports facilities which include an athletics track, Olympic swimming pool and football stadium, plus an Institute of Physical Education and Sports. It is a member of the National Evaluation Commission of the University Research Project (CNEPRU), the National Agency for the Development of University Research (ANDRU) and the National Agency for the Development of Health Research (ANDRS). It has seven faculties: the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Life and Nature Science, the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. Oran is regarded as Algeria’s second city after Algiers and boasts French colonial-era architecture and bustling streets. This lively port city has approximately 760,000 inhabitants. Oran’s old quarter has a casbah and an 18th-century mosque, while the modern section referred to as La Ville Nouvelle, has plenty of high-rises and hotels.

The Woebken group investigates the genomic and physiological features of soil microorganisms that allow for their survival and success. Projects explore arid soils (desert biological soil crusts) that experience extended droughts, and temperate soils that are limited in easily available carbon sources. Your future tasks: We are looking for a highly-motivated technician who will support our research group in microbiological and molecular biological tasks. These include (but are not limited to): lab organization, media preparation, cultivating soil microorganisms, growth and activity measurements, nucleic acids extraction, PCR and dPCR, soil sample preparation for downstream analytical measurements. A particular focus will be the generation and curation of a culture collection in the Woebken Group. As such, the applicant should have experience in microbiology and/or molecular methods. The position is initially a one-year fixed-term contract (with mutual agreement part-time position is possible). On mutual agreement a transition to a permanent position is possible thereafter. This is part of your personality: Completed training in chemical engineering or biology (apprenticeship, vocational school, technical college) or equivalent training. Or Master’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology or related discipline. Highly motivated candidate with an excitement and enthusiasm for soil microbiology and for learning new methodological skills. Previous laboratory experience is required. Previous experience with bacterial growth and cultivation is ideal. (pro-rata if part time) Location: Arrernte - Alice Springs View Position Description Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT At Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory. We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health. Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce. All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community. About the Role We are currently building our Research Team to support research in Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance in Remote Australia (TARRA). This is an exciting and unique time to join our expanding Research Team and work across meaning research addressing the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance in remote Australia. With an aim of strengthening the Remote Primary Health setting in the Northern Territory by working closely with the Chief Investigator and broader Research Team, the Research Fellow will be responsible for project implementation, project coordination, data collection, analysis of data, and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. The incumbent will also support the overall management of this collaborative research program comprising four research arms, project communications (internal team communications and external stakeholder communications), and the project’s governance processes. You will also have the opportunity to: Actively contributing to the research project by collaborating with the Research Team to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators. Independently contributing to the planning and execution of research by offering new and innovative ideas, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, actively participating in the production of data, contributing to the writing and editing of grant applications and attending seminars, meetings and conferences. Independently contributing to ethical, high quality and innovative research and evaluation through activities such as scholarship, publishing in recognised high quality journals and assisting the preparation and submission of bids for external research funding.
