The University of Victoria (UVic), located in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is one of Canada’s top research universities.

It offers degree programmes to more than 20,000 students, 3,446 of them graduate students, with a current male to female ratio of 47:53.

UVic sits at the southern end of Vancouver Island, off Canada’s Pacific coast. It is 15 minutes away from the city’s downtown and a short distance from both Vancouver and the US border – Seattle is a 50 minute flight away.

With research strengths in several areas, including ocean science, engineering, maths, data science and computer science, as well as creativity and culture, the university lays claims to 47 faculty members (current and former) who are elected fellows of the Royal Society of Canada, the nation's highest academic honour for career achievement. It also boasts 36 faculty members who hold highly-prized Canada Research Chairs.

UVic is a young institution. It received degree-granting status in 1963, although its origins can be traced back to 1903, to the founding of Victoria College, an affiliate of McGill University in Montreal.

The university prides itself on having a culture of innovation, discovery and creativity. It also includes civic engagement as a key part of its mission, with faculty and students encouraged to work collaboratively with both community and international partners to address global issues.

With an extensive network of university partners, UVic offers 100 or so study abroad programmes in 25 countries around the world. Its Division of Continuing Studies, which emphasises individual courses for personal and professional development, serves an additional 16,000 students annually.

UVic students have access to a vast range of cultural attractions, including international film, music and art festivals. Popular outdoor pursuits include hiking, sailing, skiing and kayaking. Victoria’s mild climate (the area is home to the warmest winters in Canada) allows golfers and tennis fans to play outside sports all year long.

In keeping with its conservatoire status, the School’s philosophy is centred on performance and reflects the unique cultural mix of Hong Kong, with emphasis on both Western and Chinese traditions. The School comprises the Departments of Strings, Keyboard, Voice, Woodwind/Brass/Percussion (‘WBP’), Composition, Chinese Music, Academic Studies and Junior Music. The Senior Lecturer (Creative Music Entrepreneurship) plays a key role in advancing teaching, research, and curriculum development in creative music entrepreneurship, cultural leadership, and professional practice. The appointee will help prepare students for diverse and evolving artistic careers by integrating artistic excellence with entrepreneurial thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and engagement with the wider cultural and creative industries. The appointee will report to the Head of the Academic Studies in Music and work closely with programme leaders and colleagues across the School. Applicants should have: (a)  A recognised degree or equivalent qualification (preferably a doctoral degree) in Music, Arts Management, Cultural Leadership, Creative Industries, or a related discipline; (b)  A strong professional background and substantial experience in creative music entrepreneurship, cultural leadership, creative industries, or related areas of professional practice; (c)  Normally, a minimum of six years’ experience in teaching entrepreneurship, leadership, or contextual studies at tertiary or conservatoire level; (d)  A strong professional network within the creative industries, cultural sector, or artistic entrepreneurship landscape, ideally with international reach; (e)  A proven record of teaching excellence across undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes; experience with pre-college music education is an advantage; (f)  Experience in curriculum design, programme development, and the implementation of innovative pedagogical approaches aligned with contemporary developments in the music and creative sectors; (g) Solid experience in collaborative work across disciplines and cultures, with the ability to contribute to School-wide initiatives and cross-departmental projects; (h)  Experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate independent studies, portfolio projects, research assignments, and creative or professional-practice outputs; (i)  Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills; and (j)  An excellent command of both written and spoken English. Fluency in Chinese (including Putonghua and Cantonese) is an advantage. TERMS OF APPOINTMENT Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement. A gratuity payment up to 15% of the total basic salary earned during the contract period, may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Academy’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Role The Partnership Manager will be a key role in the SCENE infrastructure. Located in Durham University's Research and Innovation Services Division, you will be a member of both the regional team supporting the SCENE programme and the University's Research Commercialisation Team The postholder will work on a 'matrix' basis, with line responsibility to management structures within the host institution but functionally engaged into the regional team, building on the experience of successful collaborative working development through the Northern Accelerator programme. Expertise and knowledge in bioinformatics, deep learning and/or biomedical image and clinical data analysis (e.g. Linux, R programming) is essential. The appointees will need to perform data analysis of single cell RNA-sequencing, transcriptomics data, Nanopore long read sequencing analysis and/or multimodality deep learning model development in different sarcomas. Publications in related fields will be a strong advantage. Opportunities for publication and independent development will be available. Additional basic laboratory skills in handling clinical samples (e.g. FFPE tissue, blood), preparation of samples for scRNA-seq and DNA/RNA extractions will be desirable.
