You will design, build, and optimise software environments used daily by thousands of researchers across universities and national research initiatives. The Position The Research Environment Specialist plays a key role in developing, maintaining, and supporting high-quality research environments that enable advanced computation, data analysis, and AI/ML workflows at the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI). The role supports major scientific domains—including climate and weather, geosciences, national water management, bioinformatics, and astronomy—by ensuring researchers can effectively utilise NCI’s HPC, cloud, data, and GPU platforms. Working under the broad direction of the Software and Data Modernisation Manager, the Specialist is responsible for deploying and optimising scientific software stacks, integrating tools and services into NCI’s computational ecosystem, and supporting users with expert advice on HPC, data science, and AI/ML workflows. The position also leads the development of documentation, training materials, and community engagement activities to ensure users can access, understand, and leverage NCI’s capabilities. The role requires strong technical expertise in scientific computing, HPC environments, Linux-based workflows, and modern AI/ML technologies. It also demands excellent communication skills, a proactive service mindset, and the ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders. The Specialist is expected to stay current with emerging technologies, contribute to performance optimisation and software modernisation efforts, and uphold ANU’s standards for safety, equity, and professional conduct. The Person The ideal candidate holds postgraduate qualifications or equivalent experience in HPC, data science and AI/ML, with strong domain expertise in areas such as climate, weather, environmental science or related fields. They demonstrate proven capability in developing, optimising and deploying scientific workflows across HPC, cloud and GPU environments, with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Fortran, C, R or Julia and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks. They have expertise in data formats, software engineering practices, performance profiling and benchmarking, and are confident working within Linux environments and distributed systems. The successful candidate is collaborative, proactive and service-oriented, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with researchers and stakeholders. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs Job Requirements SNB-valid Full Practicing Certificate (Registered Nurse). A degree in Nursing from a recognised University. Possessing a Master’s degree, PhD degree and relevant certifications will be an added advantage. Have at least 10 years of clinical nursing experience in healthcare settings. Extensive experience and knowledge of nursing skills and industry practices to bring industry perspectives to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Experience in research projects and publications will be an added advantage. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Experience in simulation education will be an added advantage. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possessing industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage (e.g., simulation training) Possession of a good network of relationships with industry partners in hospitals, community, and ILTC sectors will be an added advantage.

The overall aim of this project is to report on the efficacy of the Architect's Accreditation Council of Australia National Standard of Competency for Architecture (NSCA). The culturally informed project aims to survey and workshop First Nations specific Performance Criteria of the NSCA with New South Wales based Indigenous communities, universities, practices, peak bodies and allied disciplines. The Senior Research Officer will help coordinate and undertake data collection, data interpretation, development of publications and organisation of annual symposiums. Experience in architecture and the built environment in relation to Country and First Nations Communities and Culture is critical to advancing the processes and outcomes of this research project. They will be expected to apply and develop their expertise in conducting research and interactive activities. Your key responsibilities will be to: work closely with and provide project support to Associate Professor Mossman and the project team. work independently and as part of the research team, to undertake literature and policy reviews, qualitative research, including data collection, analysis and writing up of results. undertake qualitative research field work independently and with the team, during 6 month intensive periods from March to September 2026 Sydney and surrounding regional areas. analyse data obtained from Information Collecting Events and assess themes and key points assist in the development and publication of a scoping review. assist in coordination of data collection (Surveys and Yarning Workshops) with Communities, Universities, Practices, Peak Bodies and Allied Disciplines. coordinate and record the project investigator meetings and workshops and assist in coordinating the Advisory Group meetings. assist in all activities related to conduct of the research including in the reviewing and updating of research protocols and related documents, and in coordinating reporting to human research ethics committees. assist to build and maintain strategic relationships by liaising, consulting, and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders to identify key issues as they relate to the research activities and help developing effective solutions to challenges that arise.
