The University of Kansas (KU) was founded in 1865. Today KU has five campuses and is a major, state-sponsored public research university and a member of the elite Association of American Universities.

In 1863 the state governor of Kansas told residents of the town of Lawrence that the Kansas University would be built there if the residents were able to raise a $15,000 endowment and donate 16 ha of land for the project. Donations from the abolitionist and philanthropist Amos Adams Lawrence and local residents covered the endowment and the land was donated by a former state governor and his wife.

KU is home to 13 schools offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate qualifications – there are over 370 different bachelor, master, doctoral, and professional degree programs offered. KU is home to over 2,000 international students representing over 110 countries with partner organisations across the globe providing a truly international learning environment.

Areas of special expertise include aerospace, civil, and petroleum engineering, rural medicine, social welfare, nursing, pharmacy, urban policy, occupational therapy, clinical child psychology and speech-language pathology.

The university is spread over five different campus areas with the main location in Lawrence and other locations in Kansas City, Overland Park, Wichita,and Salina. Academic and administration facilities are housed in grand red-roofed buildings and more modern buildings, campus grounds are green, spacious.

Notable alumni include two Nobel Laureates, 13 former state governors, astronomer Clyde Tombaugh who discovered Pluto and three former NASA astronauts.

Ref.: 534736 Work type: Full-time Department: Faculty of Dentistry (08000) Categories: Professoriate Staff Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Assistant Professor in General Dentistry of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 534736), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance. The Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The high quality of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research excellence and clinical/professional services have attained global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s global rankings among the top three by the QS World University Rankings by Subject for nine out of the past eleven years (2015-2025). The Faculty’s strategic research themes include Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health. The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange (KE) activities as well as in oral health research and promotions in international, regional and local communities. Applicants should possess a Dental Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and a Dental Master’s degree relevant to General Dentistry, with preference given to those holding a PhD degree. They should have: ability in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and practice; potential for and interest in research; proven ability in clinical excellence; ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and participation in KE activities. They should demonstrate excellence in clinical care, research and teaching in General Dentistry, supported by a good background in dental education, in particular undergraduate curriculum design.  Publications in international peer-reviewed journals are considered an advantage. The appointee will engage in the clinical and didactic teaching in General Dentistry, participate in undergraduate curriculum development and assessment practices, supervise research projects, develop independent research, and participate in knowledge exchange and administrative duties of the Faculty. He/she is also expected to work collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse environment, develop a competitive research portfolio, and contribute to the curricula available at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
